Illustrations for 'The Compact Garden', by Marv and Char Lopez

In 2025, Claire Loon Baldwin created interior and cover illustrations for The Compact Garden by Marv and Char Lopez, published by DK Publishing/Penguin Random House in April 2026.

The hand-drawn and hand-painted painted book cover design features a vibrant collection of botanical illustrations, including Swiss chard, tomatoes, a variety of heirloom peppers, cabbage, and other garden vegetables, arranged in a colorful rainbow composition around an aerial view of a backyard vegetable and flower garden.

Claire researched and developed the design by combing through Marv and Char's vast library of videos and photos of their prolific vegetable garden. She created the botanical illustrations with watercolor and ink.
